A Democratic Strategist memo, written by James Vega, entitled, What is ‘Right Wing Extremism?’ is another example of the lies and distortions aimed at defaming Christian conservatives.

In the fallout of the discredited department of Homeland Security report on “Right Wing Extremism,” that labeled virtually anyone with an opposing view to the Obama administration as a potential domestic terrorist, this “strategy paper” is supposed to be a thoughtful response. But it only shows the left’s hypocrisy and paranoia.

Vega makes slanderous generalizations in an attempt to demonize Christians and conservatives all the while proclaiming that liberals are the potential victims of “right wing extremism.”

The hypocrisy is clearly evident in that true Christians and conservatives always denounce anyone who has resorted to domestic terrorism to advance their political ideology, while the left makes heroes out of them. In fact, President Obama is friends with unrepentant terrorist William Ayers of the Weather Underground of the 1960’s. Ayers has been rewarded by the left as a tenured professor at an uber-liberal Chicago university and is out on the liberal speaking circuit.

Vega cites various leaders of the religious right and claims that they are responsible for rhetoric that incites people to violence. But Obama’s liberal pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, can call on God to damn America and advocate a theology that attacks whites as devils, but he is not a problem. But if conservative leaders from the religious right call on God to turn America to traditional, biblical values they are a mortal threat.    

The report claims the underlying vision of “politics as warfare” is responsible for extremists taking matters to actual violence.  Of course, only conservatives and Christians use this kind of language. So, “the difference between violent extremists and others becomes quite subtle- it is simply whether or not one takes the notion of ‘enemies’ as literal or figurative.”

The paranoid Vega extrapolates that if conservatives see liberals as enemies from the military point of view, then it is not wrong to kill them as “enemy combatants.” If you see liberals as enemies of God from a religious point of view, then Christians can justify conducting a Holy War.

Where’s the proof: Timothy McVeigh of the Oklahoma City bombing and Eric Rudoulph who bombed the Olympics and abortion clinics. They just took the figurative ideas to their logical conclusions.  Again, the hypocrisy of all this is Christians and conservatives denounce anyone who resorts to violence. The left makes them heroes.

According to Vega, because of the rhetoric by conservatives and their use of martial metaphors, the government is justified in monitoring conservatives.  But Vega conveniently forgets what the left said over the last eight years about President Bush.

Jeff Jacob of the Boston Globe wrote in 2006 about the use of violent rhetoric, art, fashion and even a movie that encouraged violence against President Bush. 

Air America talk show host Randi Rhodes recommended doing to Bush what Michael Corleone, in The Godfather, Part II, does to his brother. “Like Fredo,” she said, “somebody ought to take him out fishing and phuw!” -- then she imitated the sound of a gunshot.

In a British newspaper the Guardian, columnist Charlie Brooker asked: “John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley Jr. -- where are you now that we need you?”

In Checkpoint, a novel by Nicholson Baker, two characters discuss the wisdom of shooting the president. “I'm going to kill that bastard,” one character fumes.

At Chicago’s Columbia College, an exhibit included a sheet of mock postage stamps bearing the words “Patriot Act” and depicting President Bush with a gun to his head.

There were even “KILL BUSH” t-shirts offered last year at CafePress, an online retailer.

A movie “Death of a President,” opens with what looks like actual footage of Bush being gunned down by a sniper as he leaves a Chicago hotel in October 2007.

I don’t recall seeing the Bush Administration issuing a Homeland Security Report that called all his liberal political opponents potential terrorists because of the extreme rhetoric and hyperbole of partisan liberals.

All this hypocritical bluster by the left is a dangerous attempt to demonize Christians and conservatives. We cannot let this slanderous one-sided article go unanswered.

Contact the Democratic Strategist and demand that they retract this anti-Christian article. Remind them that President Obama, in his recent speech at Norte Dame University, asked that we conduct our civic discourse without resorting to demonizing the other side. James Vega does just that by continuing to label conservative Christians potential terrorists.
