Pity Brad Pitt Print E-mail

During a recent appearance on Bill Maher’s show, Real Time on HBO, Brad Pitt said that he was thinking of running for mayor of New Orleans on an “Anti-religion, pro-legalization of marijuana and pro-gay marriage” platform.”

When prodded by Maher to elaborate on his anti-religious attitude, Pitt made it clear that it was not religion in general, but Christianity in particular, that he had a problem with. Later, in a pitiful act of self-justification for his anti-Christian bigotry, Pitt awkwardly bemused, “Well I don’t think any Christians watch this show anyway.”  Brad Pitt appearing on Real Time with Bill Maher

Pitt appears to be a mere poser, not a true, hardened unbeliever. Maybe it’s because he really knows too much. “I was raised in a religious household,” said Pitt, but “It just didn’t work for me in the long run.”

What does he mean by that?

In another interview with Parade magazine we get a glimpse of the conflicted soul of a man who knows too much. This is the case with many people we know and love. Speaking of his upbringing as a Southern Baptist in Missouri, Pitt admitted his rebellious, hedonistic bent. "I thought you had to experience things if you want to know right from wrong.”

Conveniently for Pitt, any judgment about right and wrong has to be based on his experience. So, by this kind of flawed reasoning, how can you know anything is wrong for you unless you first imbibe? Is murder wrong for you? How would you know unless you kill someone?

This is preposterous reasoning, but it passes for deep intellectual rigor on the Hollywood hedonistic circuit. The real motive for Pitt is not some deep longing for truth, but rather he has a need to taste forbidden fruit.  At least that’s what Pitt said. “I'd go to Christian revivals and be moved by the Holy Spirit, and I'd go to rock concerts and feel the same fervor. Then I'd be told, 'That's the Devil's music! Don't partake in that!' I wanted to experience things religion said not to experience."

So Pitt is conflicted, like all unbelievers. Only perhaps more so, because of his exposure to the things of God and his parent’s love and prayers.

One problem for Pitt is that he confused the so called “move of the Holy Spirit” with the emotional dynamics of being at a drug-fueled rock concert. I am sure he knows the difference between the inward drawing of the Holy Spirit to repent of sin and follow Christ and the carnal urge to take another hit of a joint.

I pray that Pitt did have an encounter with the Holy Spirit. In fact, this may account for the schizophrenic life he is trying to live. There is no one more miserable than the backslider and fence-sitter.  His public protestations to the contrary, he seems compelled to prove he is a good person. The true atheist could care less. Pitt has done a number of virtuous “Christian” things, such as adopting needy children. But he has no reason to do so based upon his alleged, hedonistic atheism.

On the one hand, Pitt knows in his heart that he should do good, but on the other hand, he won’t admit it is because he knows that God is there. If there is no God, then there is no good, only human opinion and preferences. Yet hedonistic, selfish Pitt is compelled by his conscience to try to be a “good” person, or at least appear that way. Jesus put it this way, “This is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil” (John 3:19). Pitt and his atheistic allies are on the futile journey to be God and call their own shots. This is at the heart of atheism and the Bible calls it foolishness.

Brad went on to say to Maher, “I never wanted to step on anyone’s religion until I started to see it define policy.” Here is the rub. Pitt wants to be free to get high and create a society where people ought to be free to get “married” anyway they want and not feel guilty.

For Pitt, God and his will cannot be a factor in any matter of public policy. But this is impossible because this is God’s world and mankind bears God’s image. The problem is, God is the inescapable factor.

Over 80% of Americans are self described Christians and believe in God, so it is reasonable to believe that our laws will reflect the majority’s view of morality, barring interference from activist judges.

But Pitt is hypocritical and cannot live out his own atheistic philosophy and lifestyle. He admitted that he does not get high now because he wants to be a good parent. He simply doesn’t have the humility and courage to admit he is wrong and that God is there and he must live in the light of God’s revelation in Jesus Christ. That’s so not Hollywood.

Pity Brad Pitt

If this were not so serious we could laugh it off as another vain attempt by those who hate Christ and relish the fact that Christ will have the final say. But Brad Pitt is in eternal danger. He has a moral duty to repent and believe the Gospel of Christ and to love God and neighbor with all his heart.

As a father, he is not just leading himself to hell, he is taking his whole family with him. How much more horrific will it be to be in hell with your whole family knowing you were supposed to be the spiritual leader of your home?

To whom much is given much is required.

As an international celebrity he is also corrupting his fans with his infernal beliefs. Multiplied millions of people will rise up in hell to condemn Brad Pitt because although he was raised in the truth he would not share it while he had the chance.

Pray that he turns to Christ and is saved and uses his incredible influence to glorify God. No amount of pleasure, fame and fortune in this life can compensate for an eternity under the just wrath of a Holy God in the next.
